Front-End Developer
Mid-level to senior · Remote
The role
You'll join a small team where developers have a real influence on what is being built, how it’s being built with commitment to solving the right problems.
Specifically, you'll:
- Shape features with product owners from the problem stage, including contributing to writing user stories and pushing back when one doesn't hold up
- Build and maintain UI across Glowday apps in React, TypeScript and Next.js
- Own work end to end: design collaboration, implementation, tests, review, release
- Improve what's already there: refactoring, reducing technical debt and raising the accessibility and performance baseline as you go
- Work in sprints (Scrum, tracked in Azure DevOps) with a team that treats process as something to improve rather than endure
What we're looking for
- Proven experience building front-end UI in a production application
- Comfort working directly with business stakeholders and asking the awkward question early rather than building the wrong thing well
- A bias toward simple, readable code over clever code
- Willingness to critically evaluate output, including AI-generated code, rather than accepting it at face value. We use these tools; we don't merge what we don't understand
- Familiarity with agile delivery and a genuine interest in improving how the team works, not just what it ships
Technical skills
Core
- React and TypeScript
- Next.js
- SCSS, CSS Modules or Styled Components, and solid, modern CSS fundamentals
- Semantic HTML5 and a working understanding of accessibility (WCAG, ARIA, assistive technology behaviour)
- Unit, end-to-end and cross-browser testing
- Understanding of performance bottlenecks and the critical rendering path
- Understanding of both legacy and modern browser APIs
- Sanity (headless CMS)
- CI/CD pipelines
- Webpack and modern build tooling
Desirable, not required
- Experience with UX practice and working closely with designers
- GSAP or animation work
- Experience with complex systems
- Internationalisation or multi-locale front-end work
You don't need every item on these lists. If you're strong in most of the core and curious about the rest, apply.
What's in it for you
Work that matters to the people using it. Our users aren't abstract personas — they're clinic owners and practitioners whose working day gets better or worse depending on what we ship, and we hear from them directly.
We're small enough that a good argument changes the plan. We encourage questions, alternative viewpoints, and disagreement aired early rather than resentment aired late.
Room to do the job properly. Time for testing, accessibility and refactoring is part of the work.
Colleagues who want to build the right thing. We're looking for aptitude and attitude over a checklist of years, and for people who want to help build a first-class engineering culture rather than inherit one.
