Practitioner Spotlight during COVID-19: Update Aesthetics

We caught up with Nina Prisk, Registered Nurse, Independent Prescriber and owner of Update Aesthetics in Cornwall.

If you are feeling the need for a dose of positivity, read on!

First of all, how are you?

I’m actually feeling great!

What are you doing to keep yourself on an even keel during these strange times?

I’m filling my days keeping my mind active with lots of e- learning and webinars. I’m also managing to do lots of admin, that I previously had no time for. I’m using this time as an opportunity to learn more and build my business so that it is even better once we are on the other side of this pandemic.

I also have a 7-year-old that I am having to home school, which is proving harder than anticipated!

I’ve also set myself a running goal and am building up to a half marathon.

Keeping busy then!? Tell me about your journey, from closing your clinic to today.

Having to close my clinic and cancel all of my upcoming client appointments was really tough!

I absolutely love my job, and my patients. Initially I was very anxious and stressed, however, I have chosen to see this time as an opportunity to further develop and grow. I have also knuckled down and done all the things I had been putting off when I previously didn’t have enough time.

I’m of the mindset that this will pass, and when it does, I want my business to still be at the forefront of people’s minds and to be top of my game.

That sounds like a really solid plan. What steps have you taken to protect and strengthen your business?

I have regularly kept in contact with my clients via email and social media. Interaction and engagement with clients at a time like this is paramount to securing business. I want to be front of mind when they are ready to get treatment when lockdown is lifted. I think there will be a lot of pent up demand.

Have you been doing any online training and CPD? Anything you'd recommend in particular?

I have been doing lots! There are so many amazing free training opportunities out there.

A few I would recommend include:

The Aesthetics Journal online. They have a really good library full of CPD training.

The Heathxchange Academy are very good, particularly for the Obagi training. Previously, you had to pay for this, but not any more.

If you are an Allergan customer, the Allergan Medical Institute has some brilliant webinars available.Just speak to your representative and they will be able to help you gain access.

Oh, and Allergan Spark has a library full of webinars demonstrating procedures.

You can fill hours out of your day!

Have you implemented any changes that you think will keep when 'things go back to normal'? (Here at Glowday HQ, home-schooling will be ditched ASAP!)

I will definitely keep up with the running. I’m with you in ditching the home-schooling as soon as I can!

Overall, how are you feeling about the future? Of your business? Of the aesthetics industry?

I feel really positive about the future. I’m so fortunate to be working in my dream job. My business was growing fast before this. It was going from strength to strength. This is just a temporary glitch. The aesthetics industry is ever progressing and I’m excited to be a part of it. If anything, this time away has made me appreciate just how much I love it!

Do you have any 'Top Tips' you would like to share with other practitioners?

Keep learning, knowledge is key! Keep pushing your business and your services, remind your existing and potential clients that you are still here!

What are you most looking forward to when lockdown is over?

Getting back to work! I eat sleep and breathe my job!
Travelling.
Seeing my friends and family.
Going out for dinner!

Now is the perfect time for use to sort out our at home skincare. What is your own skin care routine?

I use the Obagi Nu-Derm system. It’s amazing!

If you could only recommend one skincare product, what would it be and why?

So difficult! Obagi Nu-Derm cleanser. Keep skin clean, first and foremost.
Swiftly followed by SPF!

That’s technically two, but we will let you off! Is there anything else you would like to add?

Time is precious and we have been given this as an opportunity to learn and grow and stay safe at home, protecting ourselves and others. We are never given anything in this world that we cannot handle. This too shall pass. See you on the other side!
