Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Brit Awards (I know - bloody hell, right?!). And it got me thinking about 40. What springs to mind when you think FOUR ZERO? I’ll be honest, it used to be an age that scared me. But in the last few years (probably because it’s quickly creeping up on me), I’ve been less afraid. And I think part of the reason for this is that there are so many cool 40-year-olds around now compared to years ago. Half the time, we’re shocked when we find out their age - because they often look just as good as they did 10 years ago.
Let’s take a look at some of the fabulous females who are still fierce at 40, and why so many women look so good in their 5th decade…
Forty and f*cking awesome
I can’t write about the Brits and being 40 without mentioning the Spice Girls. Not girls anymore - instead, gorgeous women in their mid-40s who are still inspiring loads of women around the globe. I watched them on the Brit Awards when I was a kid, and loved their energy. And whether you were a fan or not, you have to admit that they are an amazing force for supporting girl power and confidence.
Twenty-odd years later and they’re still doing their thing - albeit individually - and proving that you can be a successful, powerful woman and look not just good but incredible in your 40s. We can all still channel our inner Spice Girl, no matter how old we are.
And it’s not just the Spice Girls either. Shakira is 43, Danai Gurira is 42 and Gwyneth Paltrow is 47. Zooey Deschanel, Christina Aguilera, Kristen Bell and Michelle Williams are all 40 this year, and they all have one thing in common - they still look youthful. And that seems to be the case for so many 40-year-olds nowadays - not just celebs. So, why is that?
Why are so many women looking fab at 40 now?
There are lots of reasons that women are still looking incredible when they reach their 40s, nowadays. Beauty treatments, hair, makeup and great skincare products are all widely available and sought after. And so too are non-surgical aesthetic treatments (AKA tweakments).
Want a smoother forehead or reduced crow’s feet? Hello, Botox! Want to add volume back into your lips, cheeks or temples? Let me introduce you to dermal fillers. Then there’s chemical peels for improved skin texture, Profhilo for glowing, moisturised skin. The list is endless (well, almost).
We all start to notice changes to our body and skin as we get older, and that’s totally normal. But knowing that there are treatments out there that can help rejuvenate skin and give you that glow back (and a touch of confidence) is great for anyone who wants to do just that. And the best thing is that surgery isn’t necessary. Little to no downtime, but incredible results.
So, next time you’re watching your favourite celebrity who’s looking incredible at 40, chances are their amazing skin and lack of lines is down to a few tweakments. You might be feeling old because the Brit Awards is 40, but you are still f*cking amazing!
