Top Five Skin Treatments For Autumn

Strictly is back, the thermostat wars have begun (seriously, Squid Game has nothing on the battle in my house) and the red wine has replaced the Rosé - Autumn is here! Rejoice! Yes, being ginger and freckled with transparent blue skin, I'm always happy when the 60 deniers come back out, this is MY time. However, it does also bring another issue to tackle - drier, duller, skin.

So, if like me, you need a bit of skin zhuzh, here are the top five skin treatments Glowday recommends this Autumn.

Find a practitioner offering chemical peels near you now and book right in!

1.Chemical peels.

Chemical peels are incredible for so many skin concerns. Lines and wrinkles, age spots, blemishes, Acne scarring and Pigmentation to name but a few. However, practitioners generally agree that the best time of year to get skin peels is autumn/winter.

Whether it’s a superficial peel, a medium-depth peel or a deep peel, you won’t want to risk being out in hot weather if you’ve just had one. It can look and feel like you have sunburn when you’ve just come out of your chemical peel appointment (and, sometimes, for the next few days too), so the last thing you want to do is subject your delicate skin to actual sun. Ouch!! So autumn and winter are perfect, as we naturally stay indoors more. This means the amount of sun and UV rays we are exposed to is far less than in the sunnier months.

Another great reason to get a skin peel in autumn is that over the summer, we naturally secrete more oil, collect more dirt and debris as well as dead skin. So, by the time you get to autumn, your skin can look and feel a bit duller. A nice autumn peel can slough off the dead skin cells and result in brighter-looking, more rejuvenated and fresher-looking skin.

Not only that, but chemical peels are a great way to help with sun damaged skin, which is a result of - you’ve guessed it - too much sun exposure. So, if you’ve been particularly unforgiving to your skin in the warmer temperatures, a peel might be just what you need for smoother, healthier-looking skin.

And another reason to get peels in the latter part of the year? Well, in winter, with the colder weather comes drier skin (ugh!), and it gets worse when you factor in central heating. But chemical peels help get rid of the dead skin cells that are just lying on the surface, causing our skin to look and feel drab. Thank god! So your moisturiser will go on and be absorbed nicely, and your skin will look fabulous!

2. Microneedling

Another treatment that is great to try in the Autumn, is Microneedling. It's clinically proven to help stimulate collagen production and is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses ultra-thin titanium needles which create tiny micro-injuries in the very first layer of the skins surface. This stimulates the body to boost the regenerative processes that naturally takes place in the skin every day. During this regeneration, collagen and elastin production are increased. Again, a treatment which requires strict SPF use and limited sun exposure this is another great treatment to consider during the months ahead.

The number of treatments needed varies from person to person (a medically qualified practitioner will be able to give you a good idea of what you should expect, depending on your skin needs), but a course of 3-9 treatments is often recommended. Then, to maintain the amazing results, sessions once every 3-4 months are advised.

3.Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment which enables the skin to absorb a targeted cocktail of injectable solutions to treat specific skin concerns. Utilising superfine injections to deliver enzymes, vitamins, hormones & plant extracts directly into the epidermis of the skin (its top layer), injectable serums can be tailored to individual skin concerns.

By opening tiny channels within the epidermis for specialised serums to be absorbed into, it can hugely increase the uptake of ingredients by the skin. When you apply a serum topically at home, you absorb around 7% of its lovely ingredients, this is increased by up to 70% when delivered via mesotherapy, a huge increase!

Your aesthetic practitioner will choose a cocktail that is individualised to your skincare concerns and aims, this can target skin firmness, elasticity, hydration, radiance and much more!

4. Laser hair treatment.

Now then, if you're a bit peachy on your face or constantly battling the moustache, laser hair treatment is a good idea to get you through the winter - and beyond! In laser hair removal, lasers target the hair’s pigments. The light from the laser heats up the hair follicle and bulb, damaging them and eventually causing the hair to die and fall out. In most cases, hair in the targeted area doesn’t grow back. No more Nair!

Laser hair removal works well on facial hair such as the upper lip, the underarms, the bikini line, legs, arms, the back and the chest, and is suitable for both men and women.

It’s great for thicker, darker hair, but not for those with light hair, such as blonde, grey, white or red - or for people with fine hair. Likewise, those with darker skin tones may not be candidates for laser hair removal. So, make sure you have a consultation beforehand to make sure it’s the right sort of treatment for you.

5. Profhilo

This is an amazing treatment to give your skin some hydration and firmness back! You don't need to drink 30 pints of water a day, you can get the same results with half an hour on a medical aesthetics pro's bed! Find one here

Profhilo is an injectable treatment that can be used on the face or neck to improve skin quality and make us look rejuvenated and more youthful. The treatment uses hyaluronic acid, which naturally boosts collagen within the body, giving great texture and brightness to dull, dry or ageing skin, and reducing crepey, sagging areas.

Profhilo works by delving down below the surface of the skin, where it spreads and takes hold of the moisture from within. The substance then actually conditions the skin from the inside out - incredible! Profhilo also boosts collagen and elastin production, which leads to a softer skin and more even skin tone.

Most practitioners recommend having a second round of Profhilo a month after the first. You should then start to see the full results after about 2 months. To prolong your Profhilo results, the treatment can be performed every 6 months.
